Fleas Navidad

xmas013.jpg

Some people think that dressing up your pets is the worst idea in the world. Some pets agree with this theory. This Christmas, give your pet the greatest gift and just don't do it!

Merry Holidays

ck002.jpg

There is something about Christmas music boxes that I just love. I guess I love everything about Christmas; the sights, the smells, but especially the music.

If you're feeling funny, see the Nurse!

thenurse.jpg

Humor. It's what the doctor ordered.

What is UP with that hat? How do you keep it on and what's it suppose to do anyways?

Nurse clowns; that's what the healthcare system could use. Spreading a bit of cheer as they spread those cheeks! I know I would feel better.

Everyone's a Comedian

mycharacters.jpg

A Comedienne Who is EVERYONE!

I have been studying characters since I got a degree in behavioral psychology but my main research has been on the streets photographing the people I meet here in New York City.

My characters are based part in my family, part in popular culture, and all in my imagination. People are funny and they are at their funniest when they are serious. And I am seriously funny about characters.

You know what really burns my @ss?

bigbaby.jpg

a flame about this high!

It's hard for me to believe that the Republicans decided that having their convention in New York City was a good idea. Traffic, even pedestrians, are rerouted and everyone is affected by this inconvenience. Then at night I have to hear the chants of "4 more years"?

I'm as patriotic as the next and I do believe that America is a great country; greatest because it's a country of immigrants! I did love Arnold Schwartenegger's speech. My family on my father's side is from Austria and I adore Arnold as an action hero. But overall I will be happy when they all pack up and leave.

Bye bye.

The Ultimate Cartoon: People

people.jpg

It Takes All Kinds

And all of them eventually make their way to New York City. A close look at the work that I do on the streets of Manhattan will reveal a study in human good nature. I ask people to play with me and , of course, I get their permission to take their picture.

Photographing people is my passion, my art, my obsession. The kids I shoot for the greeting cards, even the animals and the models, I do that for commercial reasons. The people are a field study; a fascination that started with a degree in behavioral psychology.

There is something about the camera, and my personality, that lends itself to making people comfortable. Most people do not like to be photographed; I understand this. Personally I love to be photographed and I love looking at pictures of people, including myself.

I have been a professional photographer since 1976 and one of my purest joys is to look at my archives. This ever growing collection represents my life as an artist, my unique point of view literally. And now that I have gone completely digital, I have found a freedom that transcends film, trandscends the financial limitations that use to inhibit my work. Truly, my answer to everything is "Take a picture of it!"

Life's SO Short

lss0001.jpg

Life's so short...you GOT to make fun of it! The photocartoon series from Kat Caverly has found its new home on Lifessoshort.com. The new site features a catalogue of her series The Photocartoonist as well as the original It Takes All Kinds.

It takes All Kinds made its first appearance in The New York Daily News in 1989 and Universal Press Syndicate said of Kat's photocartoon, "Ordinary people in every day situations really is the ultimate cartoon."

Here are some of my favorites:

Buster thanked the mice

Mr. Bibble detected some caffeine

Spencer didn't just hug trees

All walks of life are funny walks!

Ain't Life a Bitch?

j4f011.jpg

There are those days that you just don't feel like getting out of bed! You're having delicious dream but the phone rings and you realize everyone's is waiting for YOU! Ain't life a bitch?

I have been fascinated by the word "bitch" since I was in fifth grade and I found out that it meant a female dog, of the canine species. What's so bad about that? It is also bantered about as a title for an aggressive female executive and once again I ask, "what's so bad about THAT?"

To celebrate this title of distinction, I celebrate the GORGEOUS BITCH in all great women! and I say, Spread the Word!

America's Best Friend

americas.jpg

Who is America's best friend? Who is the faithful old hound dog who loves us no matter what? Patriotism is at a fevered pitch but who genuinely is our best friend?

Red, white and the Blues is the title for a new series of animations I am producing for Patriot's Day (September 11th) to be featured on eCardology.com.

Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel according to Samuel Johnson (1775) but historians are quite sure he was referring to false patriots. Who are the true patriots? Those who give their lives to fight for their country? Those who give their loved ones in the pursuit of freedom? Certainly not those who simply find ways to profit from the losses of our wars.

But still America is a great country. And her people have a great spirit. I am amazed by our Yankee ingenuity as much as I delight in our cowboy mentality. We laugh at ourselves as much as we are laughed at and regardless of what I think about the wars we fight, I do believe our hearts are in the right place.

Everything I have ever needed
to know I've learned from my cat.

pictures of funny cats

Cats. They are God's special creatures; comedians, lovers, killers. There is not a creature on this green Earth that knows how to be more comfortable than a cat!

I have had as many as ten but now I only have four. My best friend of all times was a cat; and I am not exaggerating. His name was Buster and he was an extraordinary individual.

I found Buster on the streets of New York City, as I have found all of my cats for the last twenty years. Or should I say he found me! He became one of my favorite subjects and he is a star of many greeting cards.

Pictured today is my dear boy BB, which stands for Bodega Boy. I saw BB be born and he was promised to the owner of a corner bodega. A bodega is a small grocery store on every corner on the west side of Manhattan, and any other Spanish neighborhood in New York. BB didn't like the bodega so we were lucky enough to get him back.

Then there's Rosie, Bill, and Isabella but they are another story and many more photographs!

Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby?

babies.jpg

Did you know that every baby is born with the ability to make every facial expression? Of course they don't really start to take on any meaning to them for months but they are the source of great amusement to Kat Caverly, photographer and funny pictures lady.

Funnypictureslady.com is a site dedicated to...

... the street photography of Kat Caverly, a professional photographer in New York City. Her work has been taking pictures of ordinary people in everyday situations with available light, often on the streets of Manhattan.

Her babies are popular on a new line of paper greeting cards published by Pictura but her favorite work is finding the many characters that New York City has to offer. Her cats, her husband, and her friends are as often her subjects as are the perfect strangers who seem happy to play with her camera.

Her motto is "Take a picture of it!"
