America's Best Friend

americas.jpg

Who is America's best friend? Who is the faithful old hound dog who loves us no matter what? Patriotism is at a fevered pitch but who genuinely is our best friend?

Red, white and the Blues is the title for a new series of animations I am producing for Patriot's Day (September 11th) to be featured on eCardology.com.

Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel according to Samuel Johnson (1775) but historians are quite sure he was referring to false patriots. Who are the true patriots? Those who give their lives to fight for their country? Those who give their loved ones in the pursuit of freedom? Certainly not those who simply find ways to profit from the losses of our wars.

But still America is a great country. And her people have a great spirit. I am amazed by our Yankee ingenuity as much as I delight in our cowboy mentality. We laugh at ourselves as much as we are laughed at and regardless of what I think about the wars we fight, I do believe our hearts are in the right place.
